Bridge construction and rehabilitation is our core business at Halverson Construction Co., Inc. After nearly three decades in this industry, we have become one of the Midwest's leaders in bridge construction and rehabilitation for highway, railroad and major river bridges.

Construction of the new 1,730 foot long, 5-span southbound bridge carrying Illinois Route 47 over the Illinois River at Morris, Illinois. The project included: construction of four new river piers with caisson shafts to bedrock; over 1,200 cubic yards of new substructure concrete; 1,850 cubic yards of bridge deck concrete; approximately 750,000 pounds of reinforcing steel; and over 5.6 million pounds of new structural steel. General Contractor.

Rehabilitation of the 34-span, 3,600 foot long Cedar Street Bridge carrying Illinois Route 29 &116 over the Illinois River, at Peoria, Illinois. The project consisted of: structural steel repairs to the truss & girder spans of the bridge; pin replacements over the river span; substructure repairs; removal and replacement of bridge expansion joints; and rivet removal & replacement. Subcontractor to Eagle Painting & Maintenance Co.

Rehabilitation of the Eastbound McCluggage Bridge over the Illinois River in Peoria & East Peoria, Illinois. Substructure repair, structural steel repair, roadway & navigational lighting, new concrete deck, painting and cleaning of structural steel, and joint repair.
Halverson planned weekly jobsite personnel partnering meetings, discussing schedule, upcoming work items, issues requiring immediate resolution. CPM scheduling programs used, for quick updating and electronic transmission among partnering participants. Overhead crane system used to facilitate deck removal and replacement. (A joint venture with Midwest Foundation Corp).

Removal and replacement of the North approach spans to the Murray Baker Bridge carrying Interstate 74 over the Illinois River in Peoria, Illinois. The project also includes: rehabIllinois Routeitation of the truss spans; replacement of 16 truss pins; replacement of a truss bearing; and complete removal and shoring of 180 ft of the truss span to accommodate the construction of reconfigured on/off ramps to Interstate 74. Subcontractor to United Contractors Midwest.

The project consisted of: removal and replacement of the existing lift span floor system; new bridge grating; painting and cleaning of existing lift span; rehab of bridge tender house; new tender house access; structural steel repairs; joint rehabilitation; and shotcrete pier repairs. Used the specialized overhead crane system to replace floor system in 1-1/2 months; used a specially designed water tank ballast system for temporary counterweight support; coordinated with painting contractor to complete project 15 days ahead of schedule.
