Our History — The Early Years

In 1978, and with nearly 30 years of construction experience behind him, Vern E. Halverson founded Halverson Construction Co., Inc. to perform heavy / highway construction in Illinois.

The company’s first office staff included Vern, his wife Mary and their dog Freckles. The firm was located in the basement of their home in Springfield, Illinois. The hard work, experience and dedication that Vern had learned throughout his life and career as a surveyor, layout engineer, superintendent, estimator and project manager provided an outstanding foundation upon which the company succeeded in these early years.



Our Reputation Grows

Since 1978, Halverson Construction Co., Inc. has become a successsful, family-owned, union, heavy and highway contractor. We have grown to become a well-respected industry leader for bridge, highway, earthwork and piling construction, carrying out a broad spectrum of challenging construction projects. For many years, our emphasis has been in public works projects for state DOT’s, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, several railroads, local and county transportation agencies, and several utility and oil companies. Through these projects and clients, Halverson has become known for our hard work, an ability to deliver projects on schedule, and our innovative engineering for construction challenges.



New Developments

In 2002, with the addition of several key employees, Halverson started a commercial construction division, focusing on building construction for all market segments. Using the experience of these employees, in general contracting, construction management and design-build, combined with the proven capability from our past, our commercial division is fast becoming known for the same qualities upon which the company was founded.



Future Goals

While the construction industry has seen numerous changes over the years, the set of principles and values upon which Vern Halverson founded our company have not. These values combine dedication, hard work, a sense of family value, and quality craftsmanship, and are instilled in each of our employees. With a sense of pride in our past, and an eye toward the future, Halverson Construction is committed to building enduring relationships with our clients, which are founded upon trust and integrity.
